I used to feel so different, like a black mark in a room full of gold stars, but coming to The Corner made me feel part of something , of something great. (Female 21)
A worker will greet you at the reception desk and will hand you a sheet which lists the services that we offer. This will be yellow if you are female and blue if you are male. Tick the box beside the service you need. You can tick more than one box.
When you tick the box(s) the worker will write down a description of you (we don’t write your name down at reception), where you are sitting, what time you came in and who you need to see. If you need a pregnancy test you will be seen by either a nurse or another worker. If you need emergency contraception (morning after pill),repeat contraception ( more of the pill, or your 12 week injection) you will be seen by a nurse or doctor (Doctor Available Monday 3-5.30 and sat 1-3pm).
If you would like to start contraception you will either be seen by a nurse or doctor. If you have ticked that you would like condoms you will be seen by any member of staff. If you have not had a condom demonstration before (shown how to put on a condom) a member of staff will do this with you before we give you condoms. We have non-latex and extra large condoms if necessary. We also provide lubricant and dental dams (for more information see sexual health section) so if you would like some please ask. For Chylamydia testing you will see the Nurse on a Tuesday and a Wednesday.
Once you have ticked the sheet a member of staff will ask you to fill out a survey on the computer called Survey Monkey. All the information from the survey is kept confidential. We ask you to fill this in so we can keep track of how many people use the corner each month and what you think of our services. You will be asked to put in your own password for you to remember as you will be asked to fill out the survey monkey each time you come into the drop in.
If you are asking for a sexual health service we will ask you if you have been here before, if you have we will ask for your name and date of birth so we can get your notes looked out for the nurse/doctor or project worker who will see you. If you haven’t already got notes at The Corner a member of staff will take down some of your details: name, date of birth, address, contact number and ask if you have a doctor in Dundee. These notes are kept in a locked file. We do not contact your parents or guardians and will only phone you if you say it is okay to do so. The Corner has a Confidentiality Statement which you can view. Waiting times may vary when you come into the drop in and it is wise to come as early in each session as possible (see opening times). It may take up to an hour to provide a service so you may be waiting for a while. You don't need an appointment to come into The Corner. You drop in when you are free. All staff will try their best to make sure that you are seen as quickly as possible.
